Bergama is an ancient Mycenaean city on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visit the Acropolis, where the library once held 200,000 books, and the Asklepion, a treatment centre founded in the name of the god of health, Asklepios.  The Acropolis of Pergamum is situated on a hill where some of the most magnificent structures of the Pergamon Kingdom are located, including the Temple of Athena, the Temple of Trajan, the famous Library, the Pergamon Theatre, and palace ruins.

Rev 2:13-16 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Pergamon Church, referred to in the Bible as “The Compromising Church” (Rev 2:12-17), is one of the Seven Churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Although the city benefited from immense wealth, in the Book of Revelation, the risen Christ instructs John to convey that the people of Pergamon, the site of “Satan’s Throne”, needed to repent (Rev 2:13-16).

Red Basilica, originally built as a massive Roman temple dedicated to Egyptian gods, later became one of the Seven Churches of Revelation, symbolizing its transformation into an early Christian site.
Continue to Çanakkale via ancient Troy
